It looks like Cyberpunk and the nightmare of 2020 has caused even more issues in the video games industry. Layers of Fear studio Bloober Team joins the horrifying list of casualties of these chaotic few weeks in the industry. They have had to delay the oncoming launch of their newest horror game, The Medium, into January 2021.
Going into detail, Bloober Team was honest about why this delay happened, and what they plan to do with a few extra weeks of dev time. The primary concern here is COVID-19, which continues to ravage the globe. “It wasn’t an easy choice to make, but one made due to the COVID-19 situation in Poland, as well as the current schedule of other games on the market,” it said. “Bloober Team remains committed to delivering our biggest, most ambitious, fear-inducing experience to date.”
As for what they want to get done, it’s mostly down to polish. There are features and areas of the game that could use more work, and so that’s the area of focus for the next two months.
“The additional development time will allow us to add further polish, ensuring we deliver our innovative, genre-pushing vision of interactive psychological horror. Rest assured, the delay will not stop us sharing information with you, and you can expect us to unravel a few more layers of The Medium’s great mystery soon.”
These delays have already affected other games as well. Both Everspace 2 and the next big Path of Exile expansion have been pushed into January. The reasons for this are pretty clear. The combination of both ongoing COVID-19 concerns and the cluttered end of the year have forced many developers to reckon with their projections.
