Niantic has officially confirmed that their next project is an augmented reality mobile game based on J.K. Rowling’s cultural touchstone Wizarding World.
We don’t have many details, but Niantic says that the game will “allow players to go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters as they explore real-world neighborhoods and cities across the globe.” It seems likely that the game will be similar the developer’s previous games, Ingress and Pokemon GO. Especially given the massive installed user base of nerds that will likely enjoy another AR game that has been built by the developer.
“At Niantic, our goal is to leverage technology to create real world experiences that help people to discover the wonderful, and often magical parts of the world around them,” said Niantic CEO John Hanke. “The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches.”
You can check out the website for the game right here. no firm details like a release date as of yet, but Niantic has said they will share additional details in 2018. Lets just hope they don’t bungle this property like they have Pokemon on various occasions.
