Civilization VI Is Free On The Epic Games Store Right Now

Canada Announced for Civilization 6: Gathering Storm

Epic Games has made a big splash, but not without problems, for their new game launcher and storefront. Their attempts to compete with Steam have been pretty solid, resulting in plenty of sales. The biggest push Epic has made involved two prongs, free games and timed exclusivity. And even though many still say the launcher and store are unfinished, Epic just published a patch to add new features like automated refunds, it’s the free games that have given them a massive pop in terms of players. Millions flocked to the service last week to claim a free copy of Grand Theft Auto V. And now we’re getting a new game free this week. The 2016 title, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI is that new free game.

Players once again return to the hex-based map filled with cities, resources, and military units to wage war and diplomacy. The new entry in the franchise brought back a similar gameplay style to the classic turn-based games but added some new twists. Players can now make use of a new tech and government tree that allows much more interesting development of their civs. The new Districts mechanic also allows the game to sprawl cities a bit more. All the important buildings have their own tiles now, rather than being crammed into one.

So if that sounds like your kind of game, head over and grab a copy. If you need more details, check out the original trailer down below. You will find more details after the break, including where to go to download your free game.

To snag a copy of Civilization VI, head over to the Epic Games Store. Simply click that little Get button and add the free game to your library. You have been grabbing free games for weeks now, so you should know how this works. As usual you will be pushed over to the checkout page, but the price for Civilization VI should be $0.00. You can grab your free copy until 11:00 a.m. EST on May 28.

There’s plenty of DLC available as well. But sadly, there’s not any included in this free version. There’s the Rise and Fall expansion which is chaotic and fun. Gathering Storm is also absent from the bundle. There’s also the newly announced New Frontier Season Pass. The new Season Pass will run for $40 and will include a variety of content throughout 2020.

And if you really like the game, and want to get all the extra content, that’s easy. You can grab the Platinum Edition upgrade, which includes all the DLC, for a marked down price of $40. It’s usually $80 but has been discounted for the Epic Mega Sale until June 11.
