Back when Nintendo announced the Fighters Pass DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, fan reaction was hyped, but a little mixed. Fans were hopeful about any number of new additions to the already bloated roster in the fighting game. Now, we finally have confirmation of the newest DLC fighter. Byleth comes to us as yet another addition of the legendary strategy franchise, Fire Emblem.
Some fans are disappointed with the fact that another “swordsman” from the Fire Emblem series, but we will just have to work with what we have. You will also be able to play as both Male and Female Byleth, adding multiple weapon types and fighting styles to choose from. Each of the forms, as well as the rest of the DLC for the game, is sold as part of the Challenger Packs. These are of course the core of the current crop of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, the Fighters Pass.
Challenger Pack 5 is the final piece of the Fighters Pass DLC, with more planned for the future, although Nintendo has not revealed what that might be. Nintendo will definitely be releasing more content, it’s just hard to say when. Nintendo has teased us a bit though. There’s already confirmation that another batch of six fighters will be revealed as part of the Fighter Pass 2 expansion.
Although one thing you can count on is that the fans will be busy speculating what the next reveals will be.

Fan reactions, have been generally pretty positive. Pro player GSM Void showed their excitement for the character. “Byleth releasing after Genesis!” he said. “Woooo I’m excited (smiley face).”
Fire Emblem characters already dot the landscape in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, adding a combination of flair and overall JRPG style to the fighting title. With the addition of one more character, players are sure to be curious where he came from. Gamers will be glad to know that with the release of Fire Emblem Three Houses, you can take a turn with Byleth and many other iconic characters.
