The TurboGrafx-16 is a lesser-known 80s console. The original was released in 1987 in Japan and was manufactured by NEC Home Electronics, featuring an 8-bit CPU capable of displaying 16-bit color, it was an early contender in the exploding home console market. But it may not even be known to some of you, partly because it was sold under the PC Engine name in some regions. Or maybe because it was dominated by the likes of the Super NES and Genesis at the time.
But if you’re looking to recapture some nostalgia, we’ve got good news for you, there’s new release coming that will allow you to replay some classic titles from that era. And in March 2020, gamers will be able to relive those glory days with more than 50 games all in one miniature package.
And because there’s a seeming desire to emulate the variants and various addons of the original, there will be multiple versions of the mini console depending on region. Europeans will be getting the PC Engine Core Grafx mini and Japanese gamers can snag a PC Engine variant. No word yet on if future releases or game updates are planned though.
There will also be various accessories released for the platform, like a Turbo Controller, a multi-tap for five-player compatibility and an AC charger. The miniature console will cost $99.99. Preorders will open on July 15th, go here to snag one.
