SNK announces a new mini console for 40th anniversary
SNK Corporation has announced the NEOGEO Mini console. The new retro console was developed to celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary. SNK previously announced a new set of retro games as part of a collection too.
The console will have two color schemes, one red and black, the other a white on blue design. The former will be exclusive to Japanese and Asian markets while latter will be for the international version. The console itself is a miniature version of the SNK MVS arcade cabinet. This is what SNK was teasing in a previous announcement by the way.
According to SNK’s announcement. The console’s official dimensions are 135 mm wide by 108 mm deep by 162 mm tall, and it weighs 600 grams. That works out to roughly 5.25 inches by 4.25 inches by 6.25 inches, and 1.3 pounds. It’s sized about perfectly to fit into the palm of your hand, according to the manufacturer.
As far as hardware, the console features a 3.5″ LCD screen, along with HDMI and headphone outputs. There are two control options, you can use the tiny built-in controller setup or one of the two external ports for a third-party controller. Frankly it seems like the latter is the better option as that default pad looks cramped and uncomfortable.
No release date or games have been confirmed as of yet. Although we do know that 40 titles will be included pre-installed. Stock photos of the device show games like Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown 2, The King of Fighters ’97 and ’98, and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers. So it’s possible some of these games may be included in the final version.
