NIS America and SNK have announced SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. The collection includes a variety of classic games, and lots of modern conveniences to appeal to a modern audience. And of course, everything is upscaled to a more modern 1080p resolution.
In publisher NIS America’s announcement, the company said more titles are to come, but here’s what’s confirmed so far:
- Alpha Mission (console/arcade)
- Athena (console/arcade)
- Crystalis (console)
- Ikari Warriors (console/arcade)
- Ikari Warriors 2: Victory Road (console/arcade)
- Ikari Warriors 3: The Rescue (console/arcade)
- Guerrilla War (console/arcade)
- P.O.W. (console/arcade)
- Prehistoric Isle in 1930 (arcade)
- Psycho Soldier (arcade)
- Street Smart (arcade)
- TNK III (console/arcade)
- Vanguard (arcade)
The SNK 40th Anniversary Collection will include a few modern conveniences, like the option to “rewind and save at any time” and “redesigned control schemes for a modern feel.” The compilation will also include an “SNK Museum” that showcases a variety of retro promo materials and related tidbits that’s a collector’s dream. There’s even cheats built into the emulation as well if you wish to use those.
There’s also a limited edition of the game that will be available as a physical release in the west, which includes: a “Nostalgic Music Collection” soundtrack, “40th Anniversary Art Collection” hardcover art book, and a collector’s box. Pre-orders are up on the NIS America Online Store.
Expect the release the SNK 40th Anniversary collection sometime in Fall 2018.
The one negative takeaway from this news is that it’s a signal that Nintendo might not be launching a virtual console for the Nintendo Switch anytime soon. But if you’re a fan of the retro SNK games like those in this collection, you’ve got some good news at least.
