Namco Bandai Bringing New Gundam Breaker

Have you ever wanted to build a Gundam model, but don’t have the patience or mass amounts of disposable income? Good news: Bandai Namco’s Gundam Breaker series, which lets Gundam fans create and customize model versions of their favorite mobile suits and take them into battle, is coming to North America. The next game in the franchise, New Gundam Breaker, is heading stateside sometime in 2018.

Like other Gundam Breaker games, New Gundam Breaker will let players build and customize digital Gunpla (Gundam plastic model) kits of various sizes and scales. The Gunpla players build can be used to battle other players in a 3v3 co-op mode, or carried through a singleplayer campaign. The parts players scavenge during battles can also be bolted to existing Gunpla. Weapon loadouts and other pieces can be swapped out in the middle of a battle using a realtime switching system.

You’ll be picking up parts and kits in ll the typical Gunpla grades ranging from HG to MG. So expect plenty of customization and variety among players Gunpla.

New Gundam Breaker will include a story mode and a three-versus-three co-op mode. The battles and quests you undertake will often be on “battlefields” such as office and kitchen floors. So there’s definitely a very Army Men 3D vibe here. The campaign is set inside a Gunpla-centric high school.

The setting of New Gundam Breaker is an academy involved in the large-scale university town plan aimed at fostering talent specialized in Gunpla production and battle. Here, a new Gundam Breaker story will begin.

Series developer Crafts and Meister is at the helm of New Gundam Breaker. It’s the first game in the Breaker franchise, which started with 2013’s Gundam Breaker for PlayStation 3 and Vita, to make its way to North America. (The previous entry, Gundam Breaker 3, was released with English subtitles in Asia for PS4 and Vita.)

Check out some gameplay footage from a livestream of the game, sadly for us English speakers, it’s entirely in Japanese,
