How to use a Shield Keg in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1

Fortnite Shield Keg

There are many new and returning items in Fortnite with Chapter 3 Season 1. Players are no stranger to the idea of usable healing and powerups. The passive healing by campfires is just one example. Gamers are pretty creative, and newer items offer more interesting ways of staying in the fight. Items like health packs, and the newly added Guzzle Juice, offer their own spin as well. Med-Mist is the other item added this season, and they’re both pretty useful. Another new healing item has also been added, a Shield Keg.

Healing items are also nothing new to Fortnite. But what is kind of uncommon is a deployable. In previous seasons, healing was usually based on item effects or static healing stations. As the meta-game has evolved, so has the need for more dynamic approaches. Players need to stay in the fight longer, and the ability to heal up and get a shield buffer is a huge boon.

The Shield Keg in Fortnite is a pretty simple concept. You will find the item scattered around the map, looking very much like a floating beer keg. You can also get them as drops from Chests and Supply Drops. It’s also possible to buy them from The Scientist at The Sanctuary or Lt. John Llama at the Llama Homestead. The rare item can then be carried with you.

To use the Shield Keg in Fortnite, you just need to toss it down like a grenade and stand nearby. It will spray blue liquid around itself in a small zone. Stand inside that zone to get a shield buff.

The healing effect of the shield keg lasts for a full minute, and during that time you can get your full shields up. You and the rest of your squad can easily go from 0 to 100 with this item, making it very powerful for team games. The one thing to watch out for is that same radius. Not only can you and your teammates use the healing to boost shields, so can other players. Be careful you don’t heal your foes.
