How to get Hammer Charges with the Hammer of Proving
Once you’re ready to begin, you need to start by socketing the Challenge Medallion. We have a guide on it linked below. It’s very simple, as you just open up the Hammer Of Proving in the Director and look in the Quests tab. From there, you can insert any Medallions you have. You will need to farm plenty of Cabal Gold thoughout the season, so keep that in mind.
You can ultimately unlock Proving Runes and increase the power of the Hammer of Proving. You could also speed up your farming efforts for Cabal Gold with these upgrades.
What to do next?
With the Challenge Medallion socketed into the Hammer, you can move on to taking on actual challenges. You will gain access to the various Battleground playlists that can be played. Bungie is planning to add four of these in total. They can be pretty fun if you enjoy PvE. And whenever you complete a match in a Battleground, you get a Hammer Charge. Bungie will add more things to do with these later in the Season. Right now, use those Charges to earn unique umbral engrams to roll for loot. For now, when you defeat the boss at the end of the run, you can find a Tribute Chest. Spend 14 Cabal Gold and use the Hammer Charge to bash it open.
The Behemoth and Hailstone Battlegrounds will be available from the season’s launch on February 9th. Bungie is likely to add other maps and playlists to the mode over time. Expect to see more tracks in the Hammer of Proving at that point. A third EDZ-based Battleground called Cleansing will open on Feb. 16. ANd the final Oracle Battleground will open up on February 23.
