Dead Cells, as the name implies, is a game all about death, life and rebirth. This is a game where you’re going to die, a lot. And you’ll have to learn from all of your mistakes and come back stronger again and again.
Developer Motion Twin have worked very hard to create the optimum mixture of rougelike and action-platformer mechanics. At its core, Dead Cells is a metroidvania-style platformer with randomly generated levels. So that means it’s going to test the limits of your patience and perseverance at every turn. You’re going to be going through a revolving version of death’s door, so you better come prepared.
Luckily, the game gives you plenty of options to throw against the endless series of challenges it generates. Whether it’s a new weapon or skill combination, there’s something out there to deal with the latest horde of enemies that’s stunted your progress, you just have to find it. And as you play, you unlock new and more powerful skills and items to use on other challenges, so the game is at least a little forgiving as it gives you some reward for the repeated beat downs it’s going to hand you.
Dead Cells launches on August 7. It’s coming to PC as well as PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game’s digital version costs $24.99. A special boxed version of the game, distributed by Signature Edition Games, is also available for all platforms. Check out the newest trailer for the game down below.
