2K and Take-Two have announced that a new Bioshock is in fact in the works, although it’s very early in development. What’s notable about this announcement is that the publisher has assembled a pretty all-star cast to work on the video game. And since they’re working under a new label, we get to talk about a brand new studio. Cloud Chamber Studios is a brand new formation for this project, and it cobbles together some pretty impressive talent.
The team working on the first Bioshock game in years is pretty impressive. The new game even has some veterans from other franchise titles as well. Hoagy de la Plante (Creative Director), Scott Sinclair (Art Director) and Jonathan Pelling (Design Director), are all deeply involved with the project. Collectively, this team has worked on a variety of different projects across the Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars, and the Battlefield franchises. The pedigree here is pretty well established, and should lead to this new Bioshock title being very interesting.
Kelly Gilmore, the new head of the studio, has been in the industry for almost two decades. She has worked extensively on Sid Meier’s Civilization, and the XCOM series at various points. In an interview with MCVUK, Gilmore reveals a fair bit of faith in the the project. “In the brief time we’ve been working on this project, I’ve developed a very high level of confidence in this team.” Going further, she says that the team is very excited. “The chance to start a new studio under one of the most successful publishing labels in the interactive entertainment industry – all while working on an iconic franchise with incredibly talented and kind people – was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Gillmore also says that the game will be in development for “the next several years,” so you’re going to be waiting quite a while. No word yet on where within the sprawling timeline this new game will sit, nor do we have any clues about story. We will just have to wait for that news to get revealed over the next couple of years.
