Project Cars develops is working on a games console, The Mad Box

Slightly Mad Studios Announces The Mad Box

The developers behind the open-world racer that is the Project Cars series, is supposedly developing a new gaming console.

Slightly Mad Studios CEO Ian Bell teased the idea on Twitter earlier this week, and he’s already talking it up as a major accomplishment. According to the tease, which can be found below, the hardware will be called the Mad Box and will be “the most powerful console ever built.”

We don’t have any details about the actual technical specs, nor do we know anything about the roster of games, but we’re excited to see what the future holds for this particular new project. As the project is still pretty early in development and production, it’s probably going to be a couple of years before we get any of those details.

Bell said that the ultimate goal is to create a console that’s equivalent in terms of hardware and power to consoles of the next generation. In other words, he wants the Mad Box to match a high-end PC when it launches. And if it does launch within the next 2-3 years, it will probably have a pretty significant price tag that’s far above what current consoles cost.

There is a bit of good news though. The developer has just unleashed some teaser images of the console. These are clearly some early concepts, and they definitely have that somewhat absurdist feel that over-the-top concept art often brings out in artists and designers. Check out the teaser images down below.
