Pokémon Go is one of the more popular mobile games out right now, and has been for years thanks to the nostalgia and community factors the game has helped foster. But the developers want to keep that rolling, so they’re constantly adding in new events and special bonuses to keep fans coming back. Niantic has already announced a ton of other events and special spawns for the game this month, but they’re not done yet.
The most recent event, the Lunar New Year event, featuring increased chances at getting a Shiny Spoink, as well as tons of XP bonuses and custom versions of different Pokémon. The events have already been well-received by Pokémon Go players, with tons of new and returning players celebrating the Year of the Pig with their favorite mobile title.
And now Niantic has dropped another special event for players to enjoy. The developer has added in a special Shiny variant of the mythical legendary Meltan for the next month.
Meltan is obtainable by using a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go, which in turn is only available by linking Go to Let’s Go on the Switch. A Mystery Boy is obtained by sending a Pokemon from Pokémon Go to Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Let’s Go, Eevee! Every once in a while, a player can open the Mystery Box and they will receive a reward. Some rewards can be things like Candies or other useful items, but every so often a Meltan will spawn. There’s also a chance that the box will spawn a Shiny variant as well.
In other news, Niantic recently released another wave of Pokémon from the Sinnoh region, and these Gen 4 Pokémon are something fans have been asking for over a long time.
Other updates to the game have included the long-awaited inclusion of trainer PvP. There was also a string new Raids which included some brand new Legendary Poké friends. And of course there’s the Swinub Community Day which is set to kick off on February 16 at 11am PST. And just like other events, it will include a rare chance to grab both the evolved form Mamoswine, and Shiny variants of both forms.
Pokémon Go is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
