What are Ballplayer Archetypes in MLB The Show 22?

While there is one main archetype that determines how you play, various Perks can also be attached. Like other card-based elements of the game, the Perks have rarity. The higher the rarity, the more powerful the effect. Diamond-tier items are far and away the best.

You get to make your player, so choose how you want to play. And since you choose the position you’re running in, you need to pick Ballplayer Archetypes in MLB The Show 22 that work well in that position or role. You can choose between a PitcherPosition Player, or Two-Way Player when making your player. From there, you’re going to slot Perks in to improve that focus. There are Perks like Power that work well for Pinch Hitters. A defensive player will do a lot better with a focus on Fielding.

How to upgrade Archetypes?

To upgrade your Archetypes, you need to slot them in on your Loadout menu. First, click your profile icon on the game’s main menu. This will bring up your My Ballplayer screen. You can then alter everything to do with the player from here. That includes the Equipment and the Perks for the Archetype. The options will depend on what you have unlocked, so you may have to play more to get new items. The perks found here are the way in which you improve the core stats of your archetype. Each Perk is numbered, with I to IV being pretty common. The higher the numeral, the rarer and more powerful the effect.

  • Break
  • Contact
  • Control
  • Fielding
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Velocity

Each Perk type has a pro and a con. For example, a Power Perk may boost your power at batting, driving more Home Runs. However, your on-base percentage may drop as you hit more flys. You can also use the Community Marketplace to buy and sell perks. The more powerful the perk, the more it will cost or sell for.

But if you just want to upgrade Ballplayer Archetypes in MLB The Show 22, you need to play the game. As you play, you will get missions like hitting a certain number of Home Runs, or getting on base a number of times. Each time you complete these challenges, you get a reward. These rewards can be new Equipment, Perks and more. You will most often get more powerful Perks and other upgrades by doing these challenges.
