Hitman 3 ray tracing will be a thing on Xbox Series X|S

Preload and Unlock Times for Hitman 3

The launch of Hitman 3 has been stupidly successful for developer IO Interactive. IOI has managed to set new records for digital sales in the franchise, but they’re not done yet. The game is apparently getting a future update for Xbox Series X|S that will massively improve visual quality. It turns out that Hitman 3 ray tracing will be a thing after this patch.

Getting Hitman 3 ray tracing running on the hardware is no easy task, so it could take time. Speaking in an interview with Xbox Wire to hype up the launch, IOI offered some details on how things are going.

Chief Technical Officer Maurizio de Pascale had a lot of positive things to say about the prospect of improving visuals thanks to ray tracing. “It’s great that the GPU in the Series X|S has hardware support for Ray-Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer in our Glacier engine, and once that’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring it to the Series X|S hardware.”

And no, we don’t know if there will be such a feature patch for the PlayStation 5 version. The studio may be working on it, but we haven’t heard anything so far. The game already looks great, but who doesn’t love a good bit of better lighting to go with it. The patch for the Glacier engine will likely need extra work to get going on PS5. So if it does happen at some point, it would be at least a few months later.
