Total War Saga: Troy officially announced for a 2020 release

Total War Saga: Troy Officially Announced

After months of speculation and hype on the part of the fanbase, strategy fans finally know when they’re going to get the next entry in the Total War Saga series. Total War Saga as a game series took the focus away from grand campaigns across sprawling maps, and shifted player attention to smaller, but nonetheless historically important, warfare. The series now acts as a sort of testing ground for new mechanics that are then refined in future mainline releases. Total War Saga began with Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia in 2018, before taking the fight to ancient China in Total War: Three Kingdoms. And now, with Total War Saga: Troy picking up the smaller scale conflict mantle again, fans have a lot to look forward to. The diplomacy system was massively improved in Three Kingdoms thanks to these efforts, so it will be very intriguing to see what Creative Assembly has planned for this newest video game.

Fans of the long-running franchise have been eagerly awaiting the next game in the franchise, hoping that the developer would use the opportunity to explore a new historical setting. This led to lots of speculation on what era that the team would focus on next, with a lot of hype landing around the Then, a photo of PC Gamer magazine’s ‘world exclusive’ look at the new Total War was uploaded to Reddit yesterday, finally confirming the existence of the new title. We already knew the game was coming when a trademark filing was spotted earlier in the year, but it’s still very nice to know that there’s a new game coming for sure.

Three Kingdoms managed to achieve a huge sales record for the series, pushing more than 1 million units out the door during launch alone. So I have little doubt that CA will be able to parlay that success into a new batch of fans for the franchise, it all just hinges on what kind of new and exciting features they manage to pack in. According to the official blurb, “The battlefields will tremble under the feet of renowned warriors like Achilles and Hector but it will take more than brute force alone to lay claim to the legendary city of Troy,” we will just have to wait and see what that means in terms of gameplay.
