Spintires: MudRunner 2 announced, coming in 2019

Spintires: Mudrunner 2 Announced

Saber Interactive has been working hard on a variety of games this year, now they’ve got one more to add to the pile.

And this one is a bit of a surprise, but Spintires: Mudrunner is getting a sequel.

Speaking about the project, the team had the following to say.

“Collaborating with Focus Home Interactive on Spintires: MudRunner was a great success for both our studios,” Saber Interactive chief executive Matt Karch said. “Thanks to their professionalism and continued enthusiasm for the project, the Focus team have established themselves as the ideal partners as we take the next bold steps in our MudRunner journey.”

Spintires as a series got it’s start in 2014 as a self-titled game that got a big push due to it’s intriguing meld of off-road exploration and a really complex bit of terrain deformation. Over time the original game as updated to include more vehicles, as well as some new mission-based activities to make it more of a game.

The successful game wasn’t without controversy though, as the original developer departed the project after a mix of issues. That dispute between the developer and the original publisher Oovee saw the game drop from Steam entirely at one point.

Luckily for fans though, Saber and Focus Home Interactive brought the game back from the brink in 2017 by repackaging it as a more polished version of the original. Spintires: Mudrunner was born, this new version features a major overhaul of graphics and performance, as well as more vehicles, bringing the total to 19. There were also new game modes with several new and unique maps.

I would wager that the sequel will continue to build on the groundwork laid by the improved versions of the game.

No release date has been announced yet for Spintires: MudRunner 2. But, it has been confirmed that more info about the game will be unveiled in Q1 of 2019.
