The anniversary event The Darkening of Tristram would be returning to Diablo 3 this year and the dates have now been set.
The Darkening of Tristram takes Diablo 3 players on a whirlwind Diablo 1 trip through the Cathedral with retro graphics and audio. The event was originally announced at Blizzcon 2016 as a celebration of the franchise 20th anniversary. The basics to reach the event are as follows:
- Players tackle a 16 level dungeon which can be accessed from the Adventure Mode menu and by entering The Old Ruins.
- Once inside The Old Ruins, head south until you see a blue portal. Enter the portal and retro-vision mode kicks in.
- To enter the first dungeon, head north of the Cathedral and enter. The event will then begin.
- Players must reach level 16 and take on Diablo to earn the Red Soulstone Reward.
The event brings numerous rewards, and if you do tackle it, we recommend you start a spanking-new character otherwise it’s a bit easy. This special event is accessed via The Old Ruins in adventure mode and all you need to do is hunt down the blue portal to get started.
A comprehensive guide for new players that lists the requirements to run the dungeon and lists rewards that can be obtained by taking part. Well worth a read.
The Darkening of Tristram begins at midnight PT on January 1 and runs until January 30.
