How to tame and ride a Horse in Minecraft

How to change villager jobs in Minecraft

Minecraft has a great many mobs and beasts in it. You can fight some, or ride others. There’s a lot of fun to be had exploring the digital world, looking for treasure and adventure. But sometimes, you want to move a bit faster than you can on foot. That’s where the game provides various means of transportation. You could spend huge amounts of time and resources making railways, but there’s a better way.

Horses and Llamas are a much faster option, and are extremely plentiful. After you tame them, they can be ridden, or just kept as pets. You can, of course, ride them around as well if you just want a trusty steed. There are also Llamas of course, but Horses are far more useful. Here’s how to tame and ride a Horse in Minecraft.

How to tame and ride a Horse in Minecraft

The effort to tame and ride a horse can take a while, but you can do it if you put your mind to it. You first need to find a Horse before you can tame and ride it. They are usually found in Plains biomes but can occasionally be wandering in other areas.

Just like trying to tame a llama, a horse can be tamed by interacting with it, while having an empty hand. Approach them slowly, and right-click to begin. When you interact with the Horse, and you will jump onto its back. After a few seconds, it will buck you off. After repeating this a few times, you will eventually be able to ride it without being thrown off. Taming it will allow you to use its inventory as well, which is important.

While you may have tamed the Horse, you can not actually direct it. To be able to steer it while you ride, you need a Saddle. There are a few ways to get a Saddle in Minecraft. You can fish them up, find them in Chests around the world, or trade with a Leatherworker Villager. When you find one, head over to your steed, and then interact with it to open its inventory. You will then be able to place the Saddle inside that window. From there, you can then ride a Horse in Minecraft.

There are also a few other types of cute critters you can raise and mess around with in Minecraft. Axolotls are really friendly aquatic creatures you can raise and keep as pets.
