Call of Duty: Vanguard is the next big step for Activision with its massively popular FPS franchise. The game features both a singleplayer and multiplayer mode, taking the franchise back to its roots as a big epic shooter.
Set in World War II, the single-player campaign takes on the same process as previous big shooters this generation. Players get plopped into the roles of various members of Task Force One. Their ranks include Private Lucas Riggs, Sergeant Arthur Kingsley, Lieutenant Wade Jackson, and Lieutenant Polina Petrova. Gamers will be dropped into the action at various points, to tell the story of the dramatized war from different sides. Settings for the singleplayer story include both major European fronts, as well as parts of Africa and the Pacific theater.
The multiplayer is another bright spot. The game will feature a total of 20 maps at launch, while more are likely to be added over time. The standard modes we all know are there, and there are 16 maps tuned for those modes, each with its own look and feel. Then there’s the new version of 2v2 Gunfight mode coming as well. Being called Champion Hill, expect some twists to be thrown in.
Finally, an all-new Zombies game mode primarily developed by Treyarch Studios is the final piece of the puzzle. It will build on previous iterations of the mode, as well as continuing the ongoing story of previous iterations. The story hasn’t been revealed in full yet, but you can expect more as we get closer to release.
