$30M Investment in CCP For Future of VR Confirmed

caps1

A recent press release by CCP confirmed that a round of capital investment to the tune of $30 Million was secured by the company. The two principal investors are New Enterprise Associates and private equity firm Novator Partners LLP.

With CCP’s focus in VR over the recent months, it’s easy to see how investors would be eager to help them realize their vision. The work on their flagship VR product EVE: Valkyrie is promising to say the least (The amazing trailer for which can be viewed below). And with the work on Gunjack for the Samsung Gear ongoing as well it appears as though VR will become a primary focus for CCP; alongside it’s flagship MMO EVE Online.

CCP’s Newcastle-based studio continues to work on Valkyrie, slated for release in Spring 2016 to the Oculus Rift and Playstation VR devices; while Gunjack is in development at the Shanghai branch, and is slated for release before the end of November 2015.

With the upcoming changes to EVE announced recently at EVE Vegas also adding to player excitement for the future, it’s easy to see how CCP was able to secure such a promising deal. CCP’s sale of White Wolf Publishing to Paradox recently might have had something to do with a refocusing by the company on VR. Seems like good news to me.

The encouraging words of Harry Weller, general partner at NEA show some considerable confidence in CCP from their primary investor for this deal.

“We believe VR will revolutionize not just videogames, but the wider technology and media industry as a whole,” said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. “We were there at the beginning, and this investment will give us strength to maintain our leading development efforts.”

“We’ve been admirers of CCP for quite some time,” said Weller. “Their legacy with EVE Online and early investments in VR have put them in a leadership position, and we want to partner with them to further build on the great platform they have already established.”
