With the latest patch for Fortnite, Epic has made a big change to some of the weapon upgrades found in the game. Fortnite’s 13.20 update has made it possible to now apply upgrades, boosting weapon power, to many weapons in the game, via the new portable upgrade bench that you can find scattered around. This item is a fully functional item that will allow you to upgrade or sidegrade your weapons.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 has also introduced other new elements, like the new Punch Cards. Players have plenty to do this week, so you better get started if you want to complete all the challenges and see all of the new content.
The portable upgrade bench in Fortnite can also be broken down for the sake of portability. Though they do have a lot of health at 400 health, so they will take some time to break and move. When you break a portable upgrade bench in Fortnite it will go into your inventory and can be moved and placed somewhere else. This makes it easy to grab one and carry it with you depriving other players of the chance to use it until you drop it or are taken out and the killer loots it from you.
The benches can be found in their normal spawn locations around the map, but they can now also spawn inside loot chests as well.
Be aware that there is a bug with the portable upgrade bench right now. If you throw the item from your inventory to your feet, it will spawn around your character model and trap you inside its own model.
This change makes it easier to move around the map, but also get weapon improvements. You no longer need to plan your route around the rather busy upgrade benches. With the added mobility, you can just grab the first one you see and move it to a new location. This allows for greater safety with upgrading gear as you don’t have to follow the same route as anyone else.
The bench does take some time to setup, and you’re very vulnerable when using it, so keep that in mind. Only take the time to upgrade your weapons when it’s safe to do so.
