Catan: World Explorers is an upcoming augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic. It’s taking the same path that their other titles, like Ingress, Pokémon Go, and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, and blending the real world with popular culture. Although instead of hunting monsters, you’re going to be visiting the world of the popular Settlers of Catan board game franchise.

Players will be tasked with collecting resources and tools from various landmarks around them, all with the goal of “developing” the new world. AS players interact with the world they can collect resources, earn Victory Points, build roads and settlements and more. There will also a be a mix of cooperative and competitive aspects too. Players can trade or compete for various resources. Plus, the ultimate goal is to develop the most tiles within the game world.

Niantic has only released a few details about the new game. There’s no set release date for Catan: World Explorers at this time. There will be a beta test for the early version of the game though. Niantic has set up a website for the game, which will have more details. If you want to pre-register for the beta of Catan: World Explorers, that’s the best place to look. Just head to the site and provide the developer with some basic details to be able to pre-register for the beta of Catan: World Explorers.

The date for the beta of Catan: World Explorers has also not been confirmed. Although, sources and fans speculate that it could be soon, possibly before the end of 2020. If you go ahead and sign up, you will get an e-mail notification when this happens.

As for their plans for the future, Niantic is being coy and ambitious. The developer has a five year plan that will see them release up to 10 new games on mobile devices.
