Twitch users will need to change their passwords, as the company has discovered what it believes “may” have been unauthorised access to certain accounts.
The official blog post about this possible unauthorised access doesn’t confirm it either way, but Twitch is considering the matter serious enough to enforce password resets across the board. In their words:
“For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube.”
Next time you have to log in to twitch, therefore, you will have to create a new password. Twitch Support is putting out reminders to check spam/junk email folders for password reset emails.
It is also recommended that “you change your password at any website where you use the same or a similar password.” As you’d expect, really.
Twitch say they will “communicate directly” with users it feels have been directly affected by the unauthorised access, but seem unwilling to say how many users that may actually be. Instead, they offer a few tips on choosing strong passwords. Multiple words with lots characters and unusual substitutions are recommended; as is a reputable password manager program.
