Stellaris announces new DLC, “Distant Stars” adds unknown space

Stellaris Distant Stars DLC

Even as Paradox Interactive are working on the 2.1 Niven update, they’re still announcing more content for the wonderful space sim that is Stellaris.

The Distant Stars update just got an announcement trailer, which you can check out below. This new update will allow players to hunt down long-lost Hyperlane nodes that unlock completely unexplored space. Combining this with the new star systems from the Niven update will add lots of variability to the vastness of space in Stellaris.

The trailer itself is a pretty simple teaser with some cinematic flair. We see peeks at existing assets like Tiyanki Space Whales, but we also see some new environments. The most interesting bit is the ending shot that appears to show a new portal to unexplored space, with a previously unseen lifeform waiting on the other side of the gateway.

Stellaris Distant Stars Features

  • Behind Closed Doors: Discover hidden traces of an ancient gateway network unlocking a sealed path to a constellation outside our own galaxy. But is this door holding something out, or keeping something in?
  • Sensors are Picking up… That Can’t be Right: Encounter dozens of new anomalies and events for your intrepid scientists to observe and analyze, and a galaxy of wonders for them to discover.
  • Brave New Worlds: Plot unexplored unique solar systems, each with their own story to tell. Gain technology, resources, and valuable worlds to colonize.
  • There’s Always a Bigger Fish: Come face to face with a number of unique gargantuan creatures that exist and thrive in the vacuum of space. But approach with caution, because whether gentle giants or something more sinister, these legendary behemoths have existed long before you and will do what it takes to survive long after.

When the new content does release it will cost $9.99 and it can be pre-ordered now.

Whatever is out there, it’s going to be a lot of fun to find it.
