Romero Games Partners with Paradox Interactive on New IP

Romero Games Partners with Paradox Interactive on Strategy Game

We’ve got some news that is sure to make fans of old school FPS games squeal with a strange mix of delight. It turns out that John Romero is working on a new game, but it’s not what you’re expecting. John Romero (of DOOM, Wolfenstein 3D, and Quake fame) and his Romero Games studio are partnering with Paradox Interactive to make a new strategy game based on an original IP.

According to a new press release, the newly announced title is in the very early stage of development, and will make use of the star power Romero Games can leverage, and the hardcore fanbase of Paradox strategy titles, to create a killer new game that’s based on a new idea.

Both parties are very excited to get started on this new endeavor, and they’re optimistic that games will follow right along and share that jubilation.

“This has been a project we’ve been wanting to work on for a long time, so it’s especially exciting that we’ll be partnering with Paradox Interactive to fully realize that dream,” said Brenda Romero, Co-Founder of Romero Games. “We can’t wait to tell everyone more, so make sure you watch this space!”

Ebba Ljungerud, CEO of Paradox Interactive, has also echoed some of these statements in their own way saying, “We are thrilled to work with industry legends, Brenda and John Romero, whose games we’ve grown up playing ourselves and long admired. At Paradox Interactive, we’ve built a reputation for top-tier strategy games and we’re employing that expertise to help build something really special with the team at Romero Games.”

It’s going to be very interesting to see what this new game is, as the combination is pretty strange if I’m being honest. Despite the pedigree of John and Brenda Romero from their previous games, Romero Games is still a very new studio, only having released a few small projects. But given the wealth of experience offered by Paradox in this new genre, I’m confident that these two groups can make their new video game work.
