Pathfinder: Kingmaker had a very rough launch. My own experiences with it were riddled with bugs that made it impossible to progress, ending my time with a rather promising CRPG very prematurely. I decided on a whim to reinstall the game recently, after tiring out on another return to HOI IV and some other PC games I had played in the last few weeks.
The game has gone through a lot of changes since that rocky launch, and the latest adds even more fuel to the fire. This game has decided to toss even more creative gameplay and bug fixes at the bones of the original release. Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Plus Edition is the latest attempt to right the ship, once again.
Pathfinder: Kingmaker is the result of a hugely successful Kickstarter, and the first PC game based on the Pathfinder brand. For those that don’t know, the Pathfinder books and TTRPG grew out of a simple desire. Fans wanted to retain Dungeons & Dragons’ 3.5th Edition’s depth while avoiding the miniature-soaked nonsense of 4th Edition. Pathfinder became an instant hit. And a few years later, a Kickstarter was born.
There was all the usual questing and magic of a CRPG, with some new gameplay flair thrown in. A robust and challenging series of story quests culminated in the player taking on the role of a monarch. Players had to manage a kingdom for the first time in the setting, quite the departure from the usual CRPG tale. All that gameplay was helped along by incredibly engaging characters and a setting rich with lore. The addition of a refined and well-done art style also certainly helped matters. There are plenty of reasons why many consider this the best representation of the tabletop RPG experience to date.
And with its bungled release, the developers wanted to do better. Since launch, the game has gotten six major updates, and the port of Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Plus Edition to the Epic Store, tons of new PC gamers get to join in on the fun.
And what’s more, the game is on sale. It usually runs $19.99 for the base game, with some added DLC on offer. You can get it for 40% off until May 17. You can purchase Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Plus Edition for yourself on The Epic Games Store here.
So what’s in the Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Plus Edition?
A ton of new abilities and class choices have been added for one, you have many new ways to make a character now. That aforementioned kingdom management has been refined with a balance pass and more forgiving choices for players. Putting all that time in means you also get access to new quests and items galore. A mix of dozens of quality-of-life features that make the game easier to grasp for new players should help the appeal. Of course, there are also tons of new enemy encounters to battle through. And to wrap it all, a small mountain of bug fixes polishes things up.
