Animal Crossing: New Horizons will get a spooky update Sept. 30

ACNH Halloween 2020

Starting September 30, players will be able to experience a fall wonderland in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of a free update. There’s a ton of new elements coming in the ACNH Halloween 2020 update, with new content and plenty of scares and spooks.

I know I’ve been looking forward to this, as I’m using ACNH as a crude replacement for Halloween, my favorite time of year, what with not being able to have trick-or-treating in 2020.

Nook’s Cranny will begin selling Candy in the cabinet, giving you an option to distribute some sweets to your neighbors. Players taking on interactions with their villagers will find that residents will have unique DIY Recipes for furniture. You can also get things like Bodypaint and colored eye contacts for costumes from the Nook Miles redemption. Finally, the Able Sisters shop is getting some additions too with new options for designs and clothes.

You can also unlock the ability to grow Pumpkins, then use them to craft different new DIY Recipes. This will likely work similarly to the Snow Boy stuff from Winter events. Players will likely get some special rewards for having huge pumpins, although this isn’t confirmed.

The Halloween event will kick off after the month of October wraps. After 5pm on October 31, neighbors will help decorate the plaza and begin celebrating new holiday. A new NPC by the name of Jack will join the festivities and give your friends something to do. Players can get access to costumes, furniture items, and even new New Reactions. You can also port all this content into your Dreams so that you can capture it if you wish.

According to Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing:

“For players that have yet to create their personal island paradise in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, now is a great time to get started. Players who enjoyed their islands during the spring and summer will find new ways to play when they experience the new festive activities that fall has to offer.”

Finally, the NookLink Service in the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app will receive an update in early October. With the update, you’ll be able to use your smart device to perform Reactions in the console version.
