Tekken 7 reveals two new fighters, Leroy and Zafina

Armor King, Craig Marduk, and Julia announced for Tekken 7

Bandai Namco has finally revealed some new details about the upcoming new fighters for Tekken 7. The reveal took place during EVO 2019, and the fighting game community is understandably excited.  Leroy Smith and series regular Zafina are coming to Tekken 7 this year.

Both new fighters are due this year as part of the third Season Pass for the game. Zafina is due out in September , with Leroy following something in Winter 2019. Although they were not revealed, two more will arrive by spring 2020, with Season Pass 3 also planning to include new stages and gameplay modes in the future too.

Leroy is a completely new entry into the franchise, with his own backstory and fighting style to boot. He lost his family to gang violence, and now he’s seemingly out for revenge. Zafina on the other hand is a veteran of the franchise – having been in both Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag Tournament – and now she returns for more.

One more surprise was in store though, as during the event organizers played a simple trailer which featured a cameo from the legendary Solid Snake of Metal Gear Solid fame. The trailer took the form of one of the codec calls within the games, offering a rather interesting tease of another guest character. In that codec, Snake said to Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, “That was some good-ass Tekken.” According to commentators Mark “MarkMan” Julio and Aris Bakhtanians, that clip was “only for the people that were here [at Evo 2019].”

Unfortunately, it turns out that this tease was just that, a teaser meant to rile up the fans as a joke. EVO organizers made this cameo as a joke, and didn’t plan anything with publisher Bandai Namco. This whole thing caused a ton of confusion online, and EVO had to even issue a clarification over the whole thing.
