Phantasy Star Online 2 won’t be region locked

Phantasy Star Online 2 Will Finally Release in the West

Fans of Phantasy Star Online 2 got some good news this week as there’s been a reveal that the game will be coming to the west, and it won’t be locked to just those players.

According to the game’s North American Twitter account, there are no plans to keep players or the game locked to a specific location. This makes sense considering the established userbase within Japan around the game. Phantasy Star Universe also had a similar process on the Xbox 360. Having players from different regions working together will both help other players have fun, but also keep the game going longer, as MMOs are more fun together.

Phantasy Star Online 2 will be getting a closed beta test for some elements this month. The beta will run between Feb. 7th and end Feb. 9th. Within the test players will be able to playtest a handful of missions and quests from various areas of the RPG. Anyone who takes part in the test ill earn some special unique in-game rewards, and all progress will be carried over to the open beta and full release.  Head to the Xbox Insiders app within the Xbox One dashboard to take part.

The game was announced at E3 2019 during Microsoft’s press conference, although it wasn’t confirmed whether it was an exclusive. Given that the game has been out for some time in Japan, there’s still a chance we could see a PS4 port in the west. Phantasy Star Online 2 is set to be released on the Xbox One in Spring of 2020, the first release of the game in North America since the game’s launch in 2012.
