Nintendo announces Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch system, coming in March

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch

Nintendo has announced a new Switch console, well not entirely. Much like the branded consoles that were released for Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee, there’s a new game-specific Switch system. The company revealed a special edition Nintendo Switch system that will be available a week before the game on March 13. This bundle will cost the same as the basic console at $299.99.  The new Switch isn’t a refresh like the 2019 version with renewed battery life, it’s a just a custom shell. The stylish sea blue console and dock will feature game characters from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The Switch dock, console and JoyCons will be colored around a different theme, with a much more distinct look compared to previous customized offerings. The very subtle and more matte color scheme really works, and it’s nice to see compared to the bog standard grey Switch colors. We won’t see any custom content in the new Switch game though, which is kind of sad. I would love to see a unique character thrown in with this bundle as a bit of DLC. Some other bad news is there as well. For one thing, the Switch title will not support cloud saves.

Like Nintendo Switch bundles released in the past for Diablo III: Eternal CollectionSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pokemon Let’s Go! Pikachu! and Eevee!, this bundle is a limited run, so grab a pre-order now to ensure you get it. It may get worse as the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in China has seemingly negatively affected Switch production.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will arrive in stores and on the Nintendo eShop starting March 20th. The game was previously delayed back in June 2019 to give the development team time to polish the experience.
