The newest expansion for Path of Exile will be out this December, prepare for the War For The Atlas in the 3.1 update.
The Atlas, the book-accessible world that makes up Path of Exile’s world and dungeons, is beset by war. The Shaper is battling a mysterious new entity called The Elder. The Elder is hunting sources of power, and that includes the Shaper and his Guardians. As usual, the Exile is caught between two titanic forces of death and destruction.
The expansion adds 32 randomized maps with a host of end-game items, rare items in Shaped and Elder varieties with special properties, six new support gems, and new skills designed to expand and enhance the Necromancer class.
Now you may be wondering, “Why is it called a war?”. The trailer teases the answer to that question. As a player progresses through the endgame maps, their Atlas will be beset by two different forces that infect the maps in the Atlas and modify their properties in unexpected ways. The mechanic will likely work similarly to the Shaping mechanics and strategy currently in POE.
The 3.1 patch will also kick off the Abyss Challenge League. It looks like this new mechanic will function similarly to the previous Breach League. Players can collect powerful Abyss Jewels to customise your characters and items in new ways.
The expansion is going to be available on both PC and Xbox One, with the PC version arriving first on December 8. The Xbox One version launches one week later on December 17.
