It has been revealed that a port of the popular F2P shooter Warframe is in the works for the Nintendo Switch.
Panic Button will be working with Digital Extremes on the Switch port. Yes, that’s the same team behind the Switch ports of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, DOOM and many more games. Their pedigree, especially for shooters, seems to be well-established meaning that this port is in good hands.
Warframe has a dedicated fanbase, it even has its own fan convention called TennoCon. This most recent TennoCon revealed some major expansions for the game including customizable ships and other new game mechanics, check out the details on the Fortuna and Railjack expansions. No details have been announced for when these latest expansions will hit the Switch version, and we don’t know how they’ll work if they do end up in this port.
The popular free-to-play title was previously released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and has notched up an impressive 38 million players worldwide since its open beta back in 2013. So it’s great to see a new crop of potential fans for this great title. It will be interesting to see how the control scheme on the Switch adapts to Warframe, but we can’t see too much changing. So if you’ve played DOOM or other shooters on the Switch, you should be OK for this.
