Mortal Shell PC requirements – minimum and recommended specs

Mortal Shell

The Mortal Shell PC requirements have been released. Developer Cold Symmetry and publisher PlayStack have announced the details for what you need to run the game, and we can make some guesses about what kind of experience we can expect.Mortal Shell is very much an action RPG that makes no bones about ripping off Dark Souls. And the game is throwing some new things into the mix.

The player will slay enemies and take on their forms by possessing their corpses. This is an idea that has been tried in games before, but never when mixed with the feeling of tactical action combat that the game is blasting out of every orifice. Every boss is a measure of patience and game mechanics knowledge that will test your limits of reaction and timing. And since you’re going to have to change up strategies for enemies and bosses, the Shells come in handy.

One enemy could be fast but frail, giving you an agility buff that will help against a slower boss, where it’s better to dodge rather than facetank hits. Another enemy might give you an acidic attack that can melt the armor of a heavily-suited foe. The gameplay and mixture of a unique element in Mortal Shell will certainly be interesting to consider, and more so to play.

Mortal Shell minimum system requirements

  • Operating system – Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or newer
  • Processor – Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350
  • Memory – 8GB RAM
  • Graphics card – Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290
  • Storage space – 40GB

It may be surprising to see that Windows 7 computers will be able to run Mortal Shell. It could be that Cold Symmetry, and publisher PlayStack, want to test out how the beta runs on low-end setups. That would allow them to change Mortal Shell‘s minimum requirements if necessary ahead of launch, after all.

With a 64-bit operating system being a core part of the requirements, it’s expected that this game will require a bit of juice. The AMD FX-8350 is a rather ancient processor, based on the dark days of AMD’s Piledriver lines of AM3+ CPUs. These are relatively weak by modern standards. And the i5-4590 is actually a fair bit more powerful. These two CPUs will mean that Mortal Shell is likely not to look very good on the lowest settings. Expect 20-30 FPS with a lot of texture messes and other low-quality graphics.

Bear in mind that the 64-bit operating system part is essential. If you only have Windows 7 32-bit, you won’t be able to play Mortal Shell.

Mortal Shell recommended PC system requirements

  • Operating system – Windows 10
  • Processor – Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7
  • Memory – 16GB RAM
  • Graphics card – Nvidia GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  • Storage space – 40GB

The Mortal Shell PC requirements at the recommended level is a bit higher. The modern PC gamer should have no trouble running this if they have a mid-range PC of the modern era. A Ryzen 7 or Intel i7 is pretty good for modern games, and this RPG looks to be no different from that trend of aiming to work on the higher-end CPUs.

At the optimal level, those playing Mortal Shell will be able to expect a 60 FPS experience with some degree of quality. While the setup listed on the recommended system won’t be running the game at the highest resolution or ultra graphical presets, this system example should be able to handle anything thrown at it within reason.
