How to Change Traits in The Sims 4

The Sims 4 Skin Tone Update revealed

Traits in The Sims 4 are a huge part of the game. You can make a Sim that’s a glutton or psychopath. Or maybe you just want a braniac sim that prizes their books above all else. This system will let you do that. These choices will define the personality of your Sim, and determine how they respond to certain situations. A really hostile Sim might not take too well to social interaction, for example.

There are hundreds of possible combinations you can use. You can change the likes and dislikes for your characters, but you can also make them much zanier. It’s all about customization. And yes, even though you set them at character creation, you can change them any time. With that in mind, let’s talk about how to change traits in The Sims 4.

The trouble is that you can’t alter Traits very easily. The game is meant to be played with unique characters, and the traits help determine that path you take. Altering them mid-game can drastically shift how a playthrough is going. You can do it, but the game won’t make it easy. At first, you must pick your traits for your sim when making them, but here’s how to alter them.

There are two ways to change a Sims’ traits and one is the right way. You can also cheat and do it for a shortcut. You normally have to collect the Satisfaction Points from completing Whims and other challenges. Once you save up enough, you can buy various upgrades. This is the intended way to alter Traits. When you have saved up 5,000 Satisfaction Points, you can use them to purchase a Re-Traiting Potion from the Rewards Store.

The other way is to use console commands. You can enter the console on both PC and console if you want to cheat. For changing traits in the game, you must use the right key combinations. On PC, type Ctrl+Shift+C on your keyboard to open the command prompt. From there, start by entering the “testingcheats” to enable cheats, then enter “cas.fulleditmode.

This will allow you to close the command prompt and alter Sims. You do this by holding Shift then clicking the Sim you wish to change. Click the option for “Modify in CAS”. This will open the CAS menu that allows you to make changes using the full character customization menu. You can change traits and other aspects from there.

Consoles work the same way. You need to hold these button combos to bring up the console:

Xbox: RB, RT, LB, LT

PS4: R1, L1, R2, L2

Press and hold the right buttons for a few seconds to bring up the command menu. From there, start by entering the “testingcheats” to enable cheats, then enter “cas.fulleditmode.” Now just select SIms to get CAS menu like the PC version.
