Borderlands 3 Launches on Stadia Today

Google Stadia Details Negative Latency

Borderlands 3 is joining Google Stadia today as the roster of titles on Google’s streaming platform for video games grows steadily. This is of course the latest of a batch of titles headed to Stadia. Borderlands 3 will be joined by the likes of Darksiders GenesisDragon Ball Xenoverse 2, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Each of these games has their own release date, with Borderlands 3 and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 dropping today. That means the meager 22 launch title list is about to get a little bit bigger. Darksiders Genesis hit Stadia earlier in December, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be coming December 18th.

But it does beg the question, will it be enough to turn things around for Stadia. With the ever-increasing competition in the gaming and cloud computing spaces, Google is under a lot of pressure to perform to user expectation within acceptable timeframes. There’s still a ton of work to be done though, and unfortunately for Google, consumer confidence in the project has eroded a bit.

The Stadia version of Borderlands 3 will contain everything added up to the Oct. 24 update on other platforms, which is about a month worth of patches and new content. This does mean that the Stadia version could suffer from some other bugs that have been fixed in other versions. Also some gamers might be a bit miffed about the prospect of getting an older version, but I guess them’s the breaks with Stadia.

2K and Gearbox have been steadily updating the game with new DLC, some patches to fix bugs, and even some seasonal events. The Bloody Harvest was pretty well received, and the new Mad Moxxi heist is apparently both challenging and fun. So those on PC and consoles under normal conditions will have access to all of the content that’s been in the game so far. and obviously these players will get new content faster than those on Stadia. The publisher has said that they are working with Google to speed up the transfer process, and to ensure that all the new content makes it to Stadia at some point.

The Borderlands 3 Standard, Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions are all being offered at a discounted rate on Stadia until January 7th.
