Atomic Heart brings creepy Soviet-era aesthetic in new trailer

Mundfish, the Moscow-based team, have just unleashed a new gameplay trailer for their upcoming title, Atomic Heart. This dark and mysterious sci-fi outing evokes some very specific and thematic elements in said trailer, and is well worth a look. The aesthetic on display here is quite unique, as it really echoes some classic dystopian fiction melded with just enough steampunk and Soviet-era technology and architecture to craft a world I really want to explore.

Atomic Heart is a shooter through-and-through in terms of gameplay, but there’s something haunting and beautiful about the setting, enemy design and other elements. Even the weapon designs we see in the 10-minute gameplay trailer hold true to this theme. The gameplay sprinkles in plenty of combat to keep things fresh between environments and set pieces to keep things entertaining and tense, which seems to work really well from what I can see, because this game looks like it could be really intense to play.

Atomic Heart takes place in an alt-Soviet Russia flavored with heavy influences by 1950’s science fiction. The resulting game is action-packed and theme-heavy, and looks like tons of fun. I just hope this perception carries through when the game finally comes out.

The plan is to release the game on PS4, PC and Xbox One sometime in 2019, although a firm release date hasn’t been announced yet. If you want to learn more about the game, head on over to the official site. In the meantime, why not check out the gameplay trailer for Atomic Heart down below.
