It looks like the team behind Gran Turismo Sport, Polyphony Digital, is blurring the lines between fantasy and reality when it comes to racing games. In a new series of videos, Sony is using the PS4 Pro and a super-advanced immersion rig to help real racing drivers train for endurance racing.
For those that aren’t aware, endurance racing is an extremely competitive racing series that sees teams of drivers competing in sometimes 24 hour long races. Some of you may remember the tense and enjoyable episodes of Top Gear that covered this very topic. And just like one would expect, this level of competition takes a lot of preparation. The problem is, racing hundreds of laps around a real track is very expensive, so racing teams often use advanced simulators to help drivers prepare for upcoming races by running the track digitally instead.
This trailer features the Nissan GT Sport Motul Team RJN that competes in the Blancpain GT series, some of the drivers for the team even reference Gran Turismo as the thing that got them interested in racing. It’s pretty cool to see, and I wonder what other teams Sony will hook up with to promote the game. We’ll just have to wait and see.
In other Gran Turismo Sport news, the game recently added new cars and in-game monetization methods, and it recently surpassed five million players.
Gran Turismo Sport is currently available exclusively for PS4. You can check out the new trailer for the game down below.
