Uncharted and Last Of Us Multiplayer Shutting Down

Uncharted and Last Of Us Multiplayer Shutting Down

If you’re among the handful of gamers still clinging to the PS3, there’s a bit of bad news headed your way today. It turns out that Naughty Dog has decided to shut down the multiplayer servers for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us on PS3. And while no reason has been supplied, which will anger some fans, it’s pretty easy to see why this whole thing went down.

The playerbase for these games has dwindled over the years. Despite them all being incredibly engrossing singleplayer experiences, the long-term longevity of the multiplayer shooter aspects don’t have the same staying power. These games probably only had a few thousand active players at most each day combined. Contrast that with the active players in The Last of Us Remastered had more than 15 million players in early 2019 according to math based on achievement numbers. It just wasn’t worth the money to keep the servers up at this point.

The final shutdown will take place on September 3, 2019, and that means fans of these legendarily good games have a couple of months left to play multiplayer on the aging Sony platform. At least Naughty Dog is giving fair warning instead of abruptly pulling the plug on the operation.

So that’s it then, PS3 gamers will have to put one more nail in the coffin of the console that so many fell in love with since it’s meme-heavy 2006 reveal. So if you want to get in a last few matches in before the shutdown of this segment of PS3 multiplayer, now is the perfect chance. Also, at least for now, PS4 owners can still put some time in on the multiplayer servers with The Last of Us Remastered.

And if you’re looking forward to the future, the upcoming release of The Last of Us Part 2 should excite you.
