Project Resistance has single-player story mode, more survivors planned

Capcom Teases Project Resistance

Project Resistance is a strange one in terms of newly announced games. Coming from a company like Capcom, known for some amazing franchises, the new title feels like a departure for sure. So far, we haven’t seen much of this new asymmetrical multiplayer title, beyond a few gameplay snippets which revealed only the basic premise and a few of the characters taking part in this brutal fight for survival. We know now that this isn’t the next installment in the iconic zombie franchise. And even more sadly, it’s not some codename for a remaster of the beloved Resident Evil 3. And though many fans are disappointed by the chase, with some calling it trend chasing, it still looks like it could be a fun game. This would likely be augmented by recent announcements from Capcom, which revealed that in addition to the core multiplayer component, there will also be a story-driven experience built into Project Resistance. This is something a ton of players wanted though, so that’s apparently what Capcom is planning. According to game producer Masachika Kawata, the players are getting their wish though, “The version we showed at TGS 2019 was an online game mode, but we are fully aware that there many are Resident Evil fans that expect the story in the game,” Kawata told press.

Project Resistance is an asymmetric survival game that pits four survivors against one omniscient Mastermind. It’s pretty simple, the goal is to survive. To go along with this simple and horrifyingly effective premise, Capcom is planning to augment the game post-launch with more content.  Speaking about further plans, he revealed that the game will be getting new Masterminds and Survivors as part of post-launch DLC, “There are many variations of the Mastermind. The same goes for the survivors and there are more survivors with unique skills and looks that we are planning to add into the game,” Kawata added. All in all, it seems like Project Resistance will be following a similar beat to its support roadmap like competitor Dead by Daylight, only time will tell if that strategy is effective.

Players will take control of a varied cast of survivors who have somehow become trapped in a nefarious Umbrella lab. You and your friends have to escape, but that journey will be fraught with danger. With the evil Mastermind hunting you down, that trek won’t be very easy. Iconic RE enemies like Lickers and zombie dogs will stalk the players at the Mastermind’s behest, ripping them to pieces if caught. These are augmented with dangerous traps, automated turrets and other threats that the Mastermind can use to harass the other team. And as we saw in the most recent trailers for the game, the terrifying Mr. X is back once again. Although sadly, no “X gon give it to ya” soundtrack for this game like there was with some hilarious mods for the RE2 remake.

So it looks like Capcom is aiming to keep their newest effort alive well past it’s expiry date, so to speak, by feeding the ravenous hordes new flesh to chomp on. No release date is set for the game, but a closed beta for Project Resistance will be held from October 4 to October 7 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. That way, eager fans will get to try the game out ahead of the full launch later this year.
