How Does Pity in Genshin Impact Work?

How do you revive fallen party members?

Wishes In Genshin Impact are pretty darn useful. They are basically the Gacha or lootbox system in the game. Wishes will often contain characters, weapons and other items of different rarity tiers. Anyone who has played this game before knows the trials and tribulations of trying to roll for the characters that they want. The developers are aware that they can’t have impossible odds, but it’s still a bad time to roll for certain characters.

The odds of hitting a character not on the banner for that event are bad, very bad. For that reason, it’s a bad idea to roll for non-banner characters. The developers have added a concept called pity to compensate. Here’s a quick guide on what pity is and how it works in Genshin Impact.

What is Pity in Genshin Impact

Simply put, pity in Genshin Impact is a system that guarantees a 4-Star or 5-Star character/weapon after making a certain number of wishes.

The idea is to give players some guarantee of a reward if they spend money. The odds are still pretty bad, but eventually you are much more likely to get a good result, like a powerful new character. MiHoYo’s outlook for the rolls is still focused on making money, so the odds for each banner are independent.

How does pity in Genshin Impact work?

Let’s take a look at the specifics of the pity system. First of all, each banner type is separate from the others, meaning the “Character Event Wish,” “Weapon Event Wish,” and the “Standard Wish” all have their own pity. So, for example, if you pull a 5-Star from the “Weapon Event Wish,” it will not count as a 5-Star pull for the other two Wish Banners.

There are also wish limits for each banner type, and some banners have better odds. For example, the Weapon Event Wish takes 80 Wishes to hit that Pity threshold, guaranteeing a five-star reward. Standard Wish Banners have a limit of 90 Wishes before you get that same outcome. That all means that you will need to put a bit more into the higher-end rewards for banner characters, compared to weapons.
