Genshin Impact has a lot of different mechanics and systems going on. With all the different characters and their elements, you already have a lot to manage in combat alone. But with the inclusion of Genshin Impact cooking becomes a major part of prepping for combat. Each dish has various bonuses it can confer to the party, and there’s the added fun of discovering secret dishes.
Cooking in this game offers a huge boon to your party. Some meals will massively increase the damage you deal, others can buff resistances to certain types of damage. More dishes can heal the party and make them resistant to negative statuses. There’s also a huge number of ingredients and recipes, so completionists have plenty to hunt for.
Genshin Impact Cooking Mechanics
Each time you learn a new dish, you must cook it a number of times before you become proficient in its creation. Going through this process will unlock the full effect of each dish. This also allows the cooking process to be automated. Having to manually cook a dish involves stopping the cooking time at the right point. Cooking a dish brings up a special meter, stop the cooking time when inside the orange section for 100% of the food effect. Outside the orange zone lessens the impact of the dish.
To cook a dish, find a stove in any city and interacting with it will bring up the UI. Each recipe is nested under its associated character. You will unlock this ability at a certain point in the game just progress through the story first to unlock it. Once it’s unlocked, you can get ingredients as loot from battles, or buy it from shops.
Several characters in Genshin Impact have exclusive ‘specialty’ dishes they can cook, most of these are unlocked when you cook with that character.
