Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution coming to Switch

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution coming to Switch

There’s a new Yu-Gi-Oh! game coming to the Nintendo Switch platform thanks to the team at Konami. If you’re like me and spent many-an-hour on the DS or GBA, and even PC, Yu-Gi-Oh! titles over the years, the prospect of a new game on another platform is quite exciting.

Konami has just teased a new game in the property for the Nintendo Switch called Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution.

The game shares the name with another title that was released in 2015 on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. That game featured online battles with drafting, and a comprehensive story mode that took players through several duels in each series of the anime. That story mode began with the Duelist Kingdom Arc in OG Yu-Gi-Oh!, and ended with content and storylines from Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.

It would be reasonable to assume that this new Switch version is an updated take on that idea, and adapted for a new platform. One potential wrinkle relates to the rulesets and cards used, which are currently not detailed, but Konami has announced that the game will use the Japanese-exclusive ruleset of the OCG’s New Master Rules. This means that players will be able to Link Summon during the game, the new method introduced in the franchise’s latest anime, Yu-Gi-Oh! Vrains.

So it does seem like, considering the aforementioned rules updates, that this might be a Japan exclusive for some time. Although that may change when more aspects of the game are announced.

Though a release date hasn’t been announced, more details will be unveiled in the April 2019 issue of Japanese magazine V-Jump on 21st February. So check back around then for more. We do know that the game will be out on the eShop though, so no physical releases are planned yet.
