Where to get the Shiny Charm in Pokémon Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword & Shield DLC

Along with items like the Oval Charm, the Shiny Charm in Pokémon Sword and Shield is one of the most important items in the game. This post-game pickup is a must-have for any breeders and shiny hunters. If you’re doing the Masuda method, you absolutely must get these two items.

The Crown Tundra part of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass gives players dozens of new monsters to hunt for, and that means shiny hunters are kicking things into overdrive. Looking for those in the wild takes a lot of time though, so most players opt to breed them instead. And they must use a trick called the Masuda method to increase their odds. Without going too deep into the math, the Masuda method is the trick of breeding your desired Pokémon with a Ditto from another region. It must be a Ditto with a different language and Trainer ID for this to work. But put the ditto and your desired shiny into the Nursery and wait.

Each time an egg spawns, the odds of it rolling as a shiny, and determining IVs, are rolled. The Masuda method adds additional rolls to this procedure, increasing the odds of getting shiny spawns.

Without using the combination of the Oval and Shiny charms, and the Masuda method, odds of a shiny from an egg are an appallingly bad 4,096 to 1. The Shiny Charm is an item that’s meant for late-game players, so it takes some work to get. Just like the Oval charm, you must visit a certain NPC after beating the game to get it.

Where to get the Shiny Charm in Pokémon Sword and Shield

The Shiny Charm is a reward given to you after you’ve completed the Galar region Pokédex. That means you’ll need to have caught and registered all 400 Pokémon from the Sword and Shield games.

To get the Shiny Charm, your first goal is to get the Pokédex finished, then head to Circhester. Enter the west door of Hotel Ionia, go up the elevator, then enter the room on the far left. Just take a right as soon as you enter the town and you’ll see a building with several flags hanging from it. That’s the hotel you need to head into.

Beat this man in a pretty tough fight and he will reward you the Charm. Once this is done, your chances of seeing a shiny go up from 1/4096 to 1/1365.33. Adding in the Masuda method even further reduces your odds. If you’re hunting a ton of shinies, you absolutely must do this to save time and frustration.
