Where to find Glow Berries in Minecraft

What do Glow Berries in Minecraft do?

Minecraft 1.17 added a bunch of new biomes, animals and more to the game. With the debut of the Caves & Cliffs Minecraft 1.17 update, the game has gotten a lot more focus on underground variety. Players will find all manner of new caves. littered with new lichen and other plants. One of the newest additions is the Glow Berries. These plants are just one of many new species added in the update. And with each one, they have both set spawns and uses.

Minecraft 1.18 further expanded the spawns and other information around these items. The most notable change was in how they spawn. Here’s what you need to know.

Where to find Glow Berries in Minecraft 1.17 and 1.18

Glow Berries in Minecraft can most often be found in Lush Cave biomes. There are a few loot-based ways to find them. The most common way to get them outside of cave hunting is to find Mineshaft chests. These randomly spawned and generated loot caches contain ores, books and other items. Sometimes, they even contain food. There’s a small chance that a stack of three Glow Berries can be found in these chests.

Minecraft 1.18 added a new way to spawn and even grow Glow Berries. You can actually farm them now as well. The Part 2 update to Caves & Cliffs allowed the berries to spawn on Cave Vines. These will actually grow off of existing glow berries planted on the underside of a cave’s interior block. You need to place them inside of a naturally occurring cave, but the vines will often spawn on their own. When they reach maturity, they have a chance to spawn a new berry.

What are Glow Berries used for?

The most obvious use of Minecraft glow berries in Minecraft 1.17 is eating them. Just like sweet berries, glow berries will restore two hunger points. They can also be used as compost. Using glow berries on a composter has a 30% chance to raise the compost level by 1. These uses aren’t too valuable though, given how hard it is to find them. Most players just use them as a fancy decoration, or a light source, given their light level of 14.

So while you can find them, they only have a few uses. The most interesting way to put them to work is fox breeding. Minecraft 1.17 added foxes, and that means you have a new animal to raise.
