What is the release date for Pokémon Unite?
Tencent and developer TiMi are working on a new MOBA, one inspired by Pokémon of all things. Pokémon Unite will be a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) that sees players taking on a variety of different Trainers using their preferred pocket monster. The Pokémon level up though use and gain new abilities, and there will likely be a whole metagame surrounding the best team combinations and ability builds.
The Nintendo Switch will be a primary platform, but you will also be able to play Pokémon Unite on mobile devices too when it releases. So that begs the questions, when is the Pokémon Unite release date?
There have been relatively few details released about the game so far. The Pokémon Unite release date has not been revealed, in fact, beyond the support for cross-platform play, there’s been little revealed. We know that the game will borrow Pokémon and moves from various generations of the mainline games. Trainers will pick one to act as their avatar on the battlefield, taking on other Trainers in the lane-based map for dominance. We know that the game will feature classics such as Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Gengar, Snorlax, Clefairy, Lucario, and many more.
We can expect more details about the game sometime this year, probably over the Summer as Tencent and developer TiMi put more time into the game. Hopefully we get more information about Pokémon Unite‘s gameplay loop soon, because fans are really curious. The genre does seem like a weird fit for the license, so it would behoove the success of the game to have more info soon, so fans can get hyped.
The developers did release a live stream for the game, which can be seen below, detailing some of the mechanics and other details.
We do know that the battles systems during matches will echo the baseline games. Players will attempt to capture other Pokémon and return them to base for points. The more you capture, the more you level up as well. Expect the late-game of matches to be much more chaotic and tougher to win.
The game will be free-to-play, and we will be sure to let you know when the Pokémon Unite release date actually is, once we learn of it.
