What is the max number of villagers you can have on one island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Being that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game all about building up your town and socializing with your neighbors, there’s always a ton of people to talk to, and always something new to build or upgrade. But because there is so much left to do at any point, it leaves a lot of new players asking a bunch of questions about what they should be doing, as well as how to do it.

What is the max number of villagers you can have on one island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? It’s simple really, and the cap might seem low, but it will take a fair bit of work to get there. The maximum number of villagers that any one island can have in the game is 10, so you have plenty of room to expand.

And based on previous games in the franchise, this seems to be the limit of the number of housing plots for NPCs, so players can still join when you have 10 NPCs living on your island.

As you grow the population of your time with this game, you’re going to meet lots of friendly faces. Many hardcore fans of the franchise enjoy bonding with their neighbors and spending years building their villages and spending time with their digital friends.

Keep in mind that getting to that cap of 10 is quite a job. You have to build and upgrade the housing for the first few NPCs you have before you even think about doing things like building Nook’s Cranny and the Museum. These are also required for further expansion, as you will need the tools they unlock to further improve the infrastructure of your town.

Later in the game, you will be able to upgrade Resident Services and this will unlock the potential for more land plots, which can then be used for new construction. Players can buy plots from Nook for 10,000 Bells each. Once that’s done, get gathering and building as you have an Animal Crossing game to play.
