Uplay+ Game Library and DLC Revealed

Ubisoft

The list is actually pretty massive, including a wide mix of genres with all the major Ubisoft franchises of the last few years almost completely represented on the roster. All the big names are here, Anno, Assassin’s Creed dating all the way back to the second game’s Deluxe Edition, Far Cry 2 and beyond, and so many more. Newer franchises like Watch Dogs also get some time in the limelight.

Whether you’re a fan of action titles, strategy games, shooters or whatever, there’s a lot to choose from. Although there are some potential downsides. Given that it’s purely Ubisoft titles, this means these titles will never end on Xbox Game Pass all in one go, which means paying the same amount you would for the Game Pass service for a much smaller library of games. It’s still a good number of video games, but I don’t know if it’s worth the price if you’re on a budget and looking for a cheap all-in-one option. There’s also Google Stadia to contend with as well, so it will kind of a hard sell for Ubisoft to push just their games as a similarly priced alternative.

One thing that could tip the balance of appeal in their favor is how Uplay+ handles new releases and DLC. If the price of admission includes direct access to new games on day one, that could be huge for upsell potential. Offering free or discounted DLC for new titles is another option for increased awareness. Details about these aspects are still scarce, so we’ll have to wait for more to see what Ubisoft has in store.

Everyone knows the company could use a PR win after the week they’ve had. First they kicked the XP grinding out of AC: Odyssey, angering some players. Then they partnered with HitRecord for music production on Watch Dogs Legion, prompting criticism of exploitation and greed all over again.

Uplay+ is scheduled to launch on September 3. It’s a PC-exclusive subscription service that will cost $14.99 a month. Those with a current Uplay account will be able to sign up for a Uplay+ free trial from September 3 through September 30.
