Ubisoft is reportedly working on Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR games

Ubisoft

So Ubisoft could be making big moves into the VR space for games. Some rumors have begun spreading that Ubisoft has been working on new games for some classic franchises. The various games that the French publisher has made over the years are led by two iconic names, Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed.

And it could be that Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed are about to get a major resurgence. Gamers and fans have long suspected that the company is working on new games in these franchises. Ubisoft is indeed working on a new Splinter Cell game, but there is something you need to know. It turns out that the new Splinter Cell will be a VR title. And what’s even better is that Facebook, who owns the Oculus brand, has signed a deal to have two new Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR games on their VR platform

“Facebook hopes that seeding Oculus with popular game franchises will help attract more people to buy its VR headsets—which have so far been only moderately successful—and increase the amount of time spent on the social network’s platform.”

What’s also interesting is that Luca Ward (famous Italian voice actor who voices Sam Fisher in almost every Splinter Cell)  lent credence to these rumors. So it does appear that an agreement with Oculus and Ubisoft is going forward. As Ward put it:

“There is this Splinter Cell return that will be back with a final chapter, not sure about this, but they didn’t know if doing this in 2021. It was a 2020 project, but then something happens and severe big projects stopped in 2020.”

So there you have it. Ubisoft is about to blast into the VR space with two of their biggest game franchises in the next couple of years.
